Tahsis Art Society
The Tahsis Arts Society formed in 2002 with the mandate to promote the arts in Tahsis, and began by putting on several local Art Walks. Since 2002 more artists and musicians have moved to Tahsiss there are now over two dozen artists: painters, crafters, musicians, authors, carvers, sculptors, theatre people and woodworkers..
Tahsis Chamber of Commerce
Founded in 1979, the Chamber is one of the most active Community Service Organizations in Tahsis and organizes or assists many of the community events in town including: the Great Walk, Tahsis Days, the Hallowe’en Festivities, the Tree Lighting Ceremony and other Christmas Festivities.
The Chamber organizes the advertising insert for The Record newspaper, manages the Tahsis Chamber of Commerce website www.tahsischamber.com, produces the Nootka Sound Area Map, supplies brochures on Tahsis to the Village and to Vancouver Island Info Centers, and operates the Visitor Info Centre. The Tahsis Chamber assists in promoting the village and village businesses, and provides BC Chamber discounts for members.
Tahsis Food Bank
The Tahsis Food Bank is a volunteer organization that provides food for lower income families and individuals in Tahsis.
The Tahsis Heritage Society
The Tahsis Heritage Society is primarily responsible for the Museum housed in the Tahsis Chamber of Commerce Info Centre. Society members are active in collecting archive information and artifacts, and conduct group tours of Tahsis and the museum.
The Tahsis Heritage Society and the Tahsis Economic Development Society jointly developed a local Heritage Walk brochure featuring historical sites, available at the Tahsis Recreation Centre and available online at www.tahsis.ca/guides.
Tahsis Hospital Auxiliary
The Tahsis Hospital Auxiliary was founded in 1972 when the original hospital was built. The Tahsis Hospital Auxiliary continues its' non-profit work of fund raising to buy equipment and patient comfort items for the new Tahsis Health Centre, first opened in 1998. You can see the Auxiliary members out in the community volunteering for the Great Walk, putting on a bake sale table at the Christmas Bazaar, and sponsoring the Tahsis Days Duck Race.
The Tahsis Lions club has been active for over 30 years raising money for charity, and contributing to community events. The Great Walk is the Lions’ major fund raiser, and can raise in excess of $100,000 for a wide variety of charities. Walkers donate the money they raise to their charity of choice.
The Tahsis Lions provide their portable kitchen for community events such as the Great Walk, Hallowe’en, the Christmas Tree Lighting and Polar Bear Swim. They also provide a yearly $1,000 bursary for CMESS for post secondary education.
Tahsis Rugged Mountain Rod & Gun Club

The Tahsis Rugged Mountain Rod & Gun Club has been active in Tahsis since the 1950s. In 1995 the club established a shooting range near the Leiner River Bridge. They have completed a long bore range, and are adding an archery range, 50 yard range for 22’s, and a trap shooting range. Access to the range is limited to members and guests.
Tahsis Salmon Enhancement Society
Each year the Tahsis Salmonoid Program releases from 250,000 to 500,000 fry (80% Chinook 20% Coho) into the Tahsis and Leiner Rivers. The program is staffed 100% by volunteers with the assistance of a coordinator from Department of Fisheries and Oceans. Currently the Society is asking for Tahsis community groups to raise funds for the Salmonoid Program, to upgrade the water supply system.
Tahsis Volunteer Fire Department
In addition to the primary fire fighting duties, the TVFD is active as a service organization, and monitors public bonfires such as at Hallowe’en. The Department also works with the Tahsis Lions to take Santa around town to give out candy and presents and provide an escort to the Children’s Christmas party.
The Department has a Christmas party and summer picnic for all past and present volunteers, and has a reunion every 10 years. The Fire Department also works to raise public awareness with an active Fire Prevention Program including: ‘Fire Chief for a Day’ for children, a general education program for the School, and Fire Prevention Week. They also raise money for Muscular Dystrophy year round.
