The centre is staffed with a receptionist and 2 full time critical care nurses, on call 24 hours a day. A Doctor is available for appointments on Tuesday and Thursday.
The Tahsis Health Centre has an emergency department, lab services Wednesday and Friday from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, Diabetic Clinic once a year, home Registered Nurse care, and offers public health services & immunizations.

Two counselors come in each month to the Tahsis Medical Centre to offer counseling for grief, drug & alcohol addiction, conflicts, family issues, and Mental Health issues.

Community Supported Independent Living Program
(CSILP) Homecare Services are supplied by referral from your doctor for clients who are capable of managing their self care contract. Services are provided through the CSILP in Campbell River.
The Village of Tahsis has worked to create a disabled-friendly community and all municipal facilities and most businesses in Tahsis are wheelchair accessible.

Tahsis Ambulance Service

The Tahsis Ambulance Service has been established for 32 years. All Ambulance Attendants are volunteers, trained by the B.C. Ambulance Service. The Ambulance service has an office and one ambulance in Tahsis.
In case of an emergency, the Ambulance volunteers are paged. They bring the patient to the Tahsis Health Centre Emergency Department, which has two critical care nurses on 24 hour call, plus a doctor available 24 hours a day by phone. A doctor is in Tahsis 2 days a week.
If the patient’s condition warrants, he/she can be evacuated by road or helicopter to Campbell River Hospital.
Tahsis Volunteer Fire Department

The Tahsis Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1962. The fully equipped fire station has two fire trucks and a full complement of volunteers. In event of a fire or emergency, 911 will page the volunteers. Response time is less than 10 minutes.
Tahsis Christian Church Society
The Tahsis Christian Church Society (formed July, 2004) was first established as a United Church in 1957, with the Reverend Mr. Bill Howie presiding over the congregationthen known as the Tahsis Inlet Marina Mission. Rev. Howie traveled in a 36’ Cabin Cruiser mission boat, the Melvin Swarthaut, to minister to the camps and communities around the inlet. Meetings in Tahsis were held in a residence across from the current Municipal Hall. The church was built and opened in October of 1959. During the heyday of the Mill operation in Tahsis, the congregation was as high as 80 people. Currently the congregation numbers about twenty, ministered by Keith Orr.
This classic styled A-frame building overlooking Tahsis Inlet is the largest church in Tahsis, with a recreation hall, community kitchen and thrift store. The church is frequently used for community group meetings and community events including a Pancake Breakfast served the Sunday following the Great Walk and on Easter Sunday. In fact, prior to the building of the Tahsis Recreation Centre in 1972, the building was a popular location for community events and meetings.
Everyone is welcome to attend the services, which are held Sunday mornings at 10:00 am.
St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church
Tahsis’s Roman Catholic Church is a Heritage building built in 1948 with a breathtaking view of the Inlet. The residence was added in 1954. Initially St. Joseph’s had a full time Priest and Sister, but in more recent years the church has a visiting priest once a month with a full mass, and a Social following. Lay members of the congregation conduct a communion service the rest of the month.
Everyone is welcome, visitor or local, to attend the services on Sunday at 11:00 a.m., and to attend the social’s following when the Priest has given the Mass. Special services are held during Christmas and Easter weeks.

The Tahsis Recreation Centre was built in 1972 and functions as the community recreation centre and community centre. Facilities include a 5-pin bowling alley, climbing wall, gymnasium, community room, community kitchen, childcare room, indoor swimming pool & sauna, weight room and Internet café, as well as several meeting rooms. The community kitchen has service window access to an outdoor plaza suitable for large gatherings.
The Recreation Centre has modest user fees for individuals and families, and for community groups. See the Event Facilities page at www.tahsis.ca for photos and hourly rates of the Recreation Centre amenities. Outside facilities at the Recreation Centre include a children’s playground and baseball field.

The Tahsis library is part of the Vancouver Island Regional Library. Located on the upper floor of the Municipal Offices, the well-stocked library houses computers with High-Speed Internet and access to main Library resources. A librarian is available during operating hours.
School District 84

School district 84 encompasses Gold River, Tahsis, Zeballos, and Kyuquot. All four communities have Kindergarten to Grade 12 schools, and Gold River has an Elementary and a Secondary School. There are 5 trustees on the School Board, two from Gold River and one each from the other three communities. School Trustees are elected during Municipal Elections for each community. The Board office is the Administrative Headquarters, with the Superintendent, Secretary/Treasurer, and Human Resources Supervisor and support staff for the School District. The Board Office is also Head Office for the Technology Department, Maintenance Department and District Resource Centre.

CMESS was built in 1972, and the Elementary Wing was added in 1976. CMESS has a full regulation basketball court/gymnasium, 2 computer labs, a home economics room, library, science lab, and five classrooms. There is an Elementary playground and a full size softball and soccer field. In the Elementary Wing there are six classrooms. Currently five full time teachers and the Principal comprise the teaching staff, with some additional volunteers from the community offering extra-curricular activities. CMESS is a focal point for community events as well as the Education Centre for Tahsis.
CMESS covers Kindergarten to Grade 12 with small class sizes and provides a full graduation program for grades 10 to 12. Many of our graduating students go on to higher education, with various bursaries and awards to help them defray costs.

The Parent’s Advisory Committee (PAC) works with the CMESS School Principal and Teachers to improve conditions for students, and to raise funds for student supplies and extra curricular activities. PAC also provides the school lunch program.
