Tahsis Agri Forestry Coop
Box 191, Tahsis BC V0P 1X0
Ph: (250) 934-7746
The Co-op was founded in 2003 and has been researching the local supply and the market for Salal, mushrooms & berries, ferns, Christmas boughs, pine cones, devil’s club and other herbs, forest food products and floral greenery. The Tahsis Agri Forestry Co-op has an agreement with Western Forest Products Inc. that the Co-op may do cuttings on lands before the timber harvesting. The Co-op is working towards establishing an Agri Forestry buying station in Tahsis for local pickers, and to ship product to market. Any local resident may join the Co-op, work with their harvesting plan and sell their products to the buying station when open for operation.
There is a sewer hookup at the entrance, and some sewer lines within the site that would require maintenance and the addition of a lift station to be able to service the industrial site. The site is paved and fenced. License agreements are available from Western Forest Products Inc.. Agreements are for a one-year period, renewable annually.
Small operators in the industrial site do some log sorting, and a larger dry land sort is located 3 miles south in West Tahsis. To contract for use of this log sort, contact Western Forest Products Inc..
Many Tahsis businesses, including the Fishing Charter services, Marinas, Hotels, B&Bs and Motels, would be supportive of a new transport company that would offer passenger service between Tahsis, Gold River, Campbell River and Comox, as well as in-town taxi services and delivery services.
There is potential for a viable pick-up/delivery service in and out of Tahsis, Campbell River and Comox. For information on the requirements to provide this service, see the BC Passenger Transportation Board.
